HAYGAIN can pay for itself within a year
Hopefully by now, many of you have heard of HAYGAIN. But if you haven’t, it is a system that steams hay. Sound silly? Well that is what I first thought, but being the proud owner of a horse with severe allergies, my suspicions were quickly eliminated. The system will end up completely sanitizing the hay, getting rid of all dust, mold, and spores. This is great for horses who have any sort of allergy, or respiratory problem. Many of you may think that if you water down your hay, it will do the same thing. But in reality, if your horse’s condition is serious enough, nothing but pure sanitization will help your loved ones. So by now you are probably wondering what the cost of this wonderful machine is. Well your instincts would be correct. It is a pricey penny.

Explaining Probiotics and Prebiotics
Very recently, I had a customer call and ask if I knew anything about Prebiotics. I told him that I knew about Probiotics, but was embarrassed to say that I had no idea what Prebiotics were. This motivated me to research the difference.
Simply put,
Probiotics are live microorganisms that help break down proteins, starches, fiber, fats and sugars for better food digestion.
Prebiotics are the food for the good bacteria. They help promote the growth and stimulate the bacteria in the hindgut. They are non digestible by the horse.
So why feed these?
Well the good bacteria in the horse’s GI tract is there to help break down the fibrous portions of grass and hay. Once this happens, fatty acids that result then provide a good amount of energy to the horse. These microbes also create nutrients such as B vitamins. Probiotics are thought to help protect (more…)
